Los Angeles, CA (May, 5th 2023). Yellow is a creative work by Afghan Writer and Director Elham Ehsas. He decided on the film after hearing the Taliban are forcing Afghan women to wear the Chadari. It is the name of a blue full body veil. The film is a call to action. A plea for the world not to forget about Afghanistan. Especially the women who live there.

This film is resonating with high profile film festivals around the world. On its festival run, it won Best Film at San Sebastian Human Rights Film Festival. Yellow is now in selection for 3 more Oscar-qualifying film festivals. Including Palm Springs Shortfest in June, which will be its North American Premiere.

Logline: In Taliban controlled Afghanistan, Laili walks into a Chadari store in Kabul to buy her first full body veil from a Talib shopkeeper, and face a new future.

Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Actor, Writer and Director, Elham Ehsas fled the Taliban, and came to the UK when he was 10. He likes to make films inspired by stories from his home country, Afghanistan. His debut short film, Our Kind of Love, is on the BAFTA long-list for 2019. His new short film Your Hand Found Mine, which he made in collaboration with the BFI and BAFTA, premiered at the House of Lords and won Best Drama at Berlin Flash Festival.

He is currently writing with acclaimed writer John Collee (Happy Feet, Hotel Mimbai, Master and Commander), adapting his short film Our Kind of Love. Elham has been commissioned by Bad Wolf Productions (Doctor Who, His Dark Materials) to write, and devise for a new TV Series. He is also working with Synchronicity Pictures to adapt Hamid Amiri’s acclaimed Boy With Two Hearts. Elham is also part of BAFTA Connect, a prestigious three-year scheme by BAFTA to support future creative leaders. As an actor, he will be on Apple TV’s Shantaram. As well as the second season of Little America, also on Apple TV.

Yellow is a production of British/Iraqi Dina Mousawi, Catherine Tschaepe (NBC’s The Fall Guy, Paramount’s Shantaram) and British/Pakistani Writer, Director and Playwright Azeem Bhati. The stunning cinematography is a creation of Yiannis Manolopoulos.

Additional Details
Alongside Palm Springs and San Sebastian, this important film can be seen at the Oscar-qualifying Vienna International Film and Huesca International Film Festival. Through YELLOW, Ehsas hopes to raise awareness and inspire change, bringing the struggles and experiences of Afghan women to the forefront of the global conversation.

Yellow will screen in Palm Springs in June.
