Traci Lamb is the CEO and Founder of Smart Caregiving. Caregiving Worldwide is the name of her TV Show. This is shown specifically for those people who take care of their moms, dads and special needs children at home to help them. The show streams on Roku, Hulu, Amazon Fire and Apple TV through the RHSTV Channel
indieactivity: What is your experience working on the story, the screenplay, the production, premiere and the marketing?
Traci Lamb (TL): The show’s premise is having a new company each week that offers a product/service that can help caregivers or those taking care of their loved ones at home. We work with a professional TV company, CP Communications that owns Red House Streaming. They are a multi-million dollar organization that has kindly granted us access to millions of people around the world by utilizing their platform and granting us the Caregiving Worldwide TV Show and upcoming network.
How did you put the crew and cast together? Did you start writing with a known cast?
Traci Lamb (TL): I started working with the various companies that wanted to get the word out worldwide about their products/services. I let them send me the information they wanted covered in each show and together we collaborated on putting the shows together with CP Communications.
What and how long did it take to complete the script?
Traci Lamb (TL): The scripts did not take long. Each show becomes a conversation between me as the host and my client who is the guest. We talk, laugh and inform. The last part of the show, Mindful Moments, with Dr. Natanya Wachtel, she works on and scripts out each week. It is an integral part of each show.
When did you form your production company – and what was the original motivation for its formation?
Traci Lamb (TL): TV show started production in December 2022. First show dropped in January 2023. Motivation for its formation is to let caregivers worldwide to know about products/services that they didn’t know exist that can help them on their caregiving journey. In the process, the word gets out for the company that is the guest as well and it becomes a fantastic marketing tool. They can use the episode, and if they choose to get a made for TV professional ad created, and the ad for whatever marketing they would like to use in the future. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.
What was the first project out of the gate?
Traci Lamb (TL): Caregiving Worldwide – original show.
During the film production, what scene (that made the cut) was the hardest to shoot? And why?
Traci Lamb (TL): It’s an upbeat show and we purposefully try to make it positive for everyone. There was really no hard scene to shoot. Caregiving is a difficult and emotionally tough journey for anyone. We try to make this a powerful, positive experience so people can walk away with knowledge to help them and know they now have somewhere to turn to get help.
What worked better in this latest production that mightn’t have worked so well in the last one you did?
TL: This is the first TV production I’ve ever done. It was scary, exciting and thrilling all at the same time. I had a vision of how I wanted it to be. I wanted to make sure that I came across it.
You must have donned several hats on this film, the measure of your input required intellect, effort, tenacity, skill (…you know better). What did it take you to put out all these qualities to get the film done?
TL: It did take a lot of different skills but I honestly enjoyed every minute of it. Knowing how many people we could impact, knowing how many companies we could help grow, was such an exciting idea and prospect, it helped me push through any challenges that arose.
What about independent filmmaking and the business do you still struggle with?
TL: Getting into the TV business is normally very hard. I always wanted to get the word out to the masses through TV and possibly film but I never thought it was possible. I was and will always be eternally grateful to CP Communications for giving me the opportunity. It’s absolutely already been life changing to so many people. I can’t wait to continue to push forward and have more shows!
Where do you think your strengths lie as a producer?
TL: I think being a visionary and knowing what you want helps it to be executed. You have to know your audience and I knew from the beginning I wanted it to be a positive, impactful show not only for caregivers but to help my client companies as well. Keeping that in mind as we produced the show has helped it become what I envisioned.
Let’s talk about finance. How did you finance the film?
TL: I bootstrapped it. Luckily, the studio gave me a hugely discounted rate but I had to raise the initial capital to finance the first season.
How much did you go over budget? How did you manage it?
TL: We have not gone over budget. Each show has stayed within the parameters to keep on budget. We make it work.
How important is marketing? Do you think a project can make a dent without it nowadays?
TL: Marketing is EVERYTHING – in your business, in TV, in film, in all that you are doing. The wrong marketing can kill you in cost. The right marketing can make everything soar.
Tell us about marketing activities or efforts on this project – and how it worked or didn’t work?
TL: Marketing has been good so far. We have had multiple press releases that are starting to get us interviews, like this one! We also are talking with local affiliates and are starting to speak with national affiliates. The word is definitely getting out. Social media, of course, has helped but we haven’t been able to hit that as hard as needed. We plan on making that a priority over the next 30 days which should make our numbers jump even more.
What do you hope audiences will get from the presentation of your film?
TL: I hope as the caregivers watch it they will feel hope. They will know they are not alone and they can find a place where they can find help, hope and community. I hope clients and future clients will see the opportunity of getting their product/service in front of over 225 million potential viewers.
What else have you got in the works?
TL: We are getting a whole network of TV shows that will include but not be limited to shows about: 1 – military/veterans 2 – the Hispanic/Latino community 3 – Healthcare AI – just to name a few. We are also possibly in talks for a show hosted by someone for the Arabic community.
In addition – we have partnered with HEAL Conferences and are hosting our first global event on May 22-24, 2023 in Tampa Florida at the Grand Hyatt. It will have 350 attendees worldwide. Live TV crew and Emmy award winning network TV anchor Sarina Fazan will be there doing red carpet interviews for our sponsors. A private yacht has been hired for a sunset cruise on Sunday, May 21st for our first-come-first-served top tier sponsors. Executive chef and TV crew will be on board as well.
Also – we are currently in the process of opening Smart Caregiving Resource Centers in all 9 provinces of South Africa. We are taking multiple healthcare companies down there to help those communities.
Finally, we are in initial talks of bringing my original story to the big screen – movies. We have an Oscar-nominated screenwriter that has offered to write my story and we are speaking further with one of the big movie production houses in May of this year about how to get the project underway.
Exciting times for companies and caregivers. We want to start a movement where people are helped through fantastic organizations around the globe. With Smart Caregiving, you are no longer alone.
Tell us what you think of the interview with the filmmaker. What do you think of it? What ideas did you get? Do you have any suggestions? Or did it help you? Let’s have your comments below and/or on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
