Nebojsa Slijepcevic’s The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent is based on a true story of a passenger train travelling from Belgrade to Bar when it is stopped by paramilitary forces in an ethnic cleansing operation. There we meet the man who quite literally could remain silent and stand up for his rights as well as others on board, leaving witness to this horrific form of treatment in shock. This poignant film has been Oscar® qualified after winning the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and recently screened at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.
Logline: February 27, 1993, Strpci, Bosnia and Herzegovina. A passenger train from Belgrade to Bar is stopped by paramilitary forces in an ethnic cleansing operation. As they haul off innocent civilians, only one man out of 500 passengers dares to stand up to them. This is the true story of a man who could not remain silent.
Director Nebojša Slijepčević was born in 1973 in Zagreb, Croatia. His documentary feature Srbenka is on the short list for the European Film Awards and has won numerous accolades at international film festivals, among them the Heart of Sarajevo Award as well as the Audience Award at the Sarajevo Film Festival. His feature documentary Gangster Of Love won the Audience Award at Zagreb Dox and premiered internationally at Hot Docs and Karlovy Vary.

It was one of the biggest box office hits in Croatia. He currently teaches at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb whilst also pursuing his filmmaking career. His latest short The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent which is also Oscar® qualified.
The production company Antitalent is a Croatian company. They aim to develop stories in collaboration with writers and directors emphasizing burning social and cultural issues and the impact they want to make on society. They have a vast variety included in their portfolio from features and short to documentary series. Among their recent titles is the short film The Real Truth About The Fight by Andrea Slaviček. Premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023. The feature film Murina by Antoneta Kusijanović. It is a co-production with RT Features and Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions. Which premiered at Cannes in 2021 where it won the Camera d’Or award.
This incredible film features phenomenal performances from Goran Bogdan, Alexis Maneti and Dragan Mićanović. The stunning cinematography is a careful creation of Gregor Bozic. This incredibly important film is in qualification, and in consideration for the 97th Academy® Awards.
