Lorraine Price’s short film The Hairdresser (La Coffieuse) shares the story of a woman who does hair for terminally ill patients in the hospital. This documentary short received its world premiere at the 2021 Hot Docs International Film Festival where it received an honorable mention for Best Canadian Short and finished second in the shorts Audience Choice Awards. It also screened at Atlanta Film Festival, Brooklyn Film Festival and it will now be screening at AFI Docs Film Festival this month.
Synopsis: Kathleen is a hairdresser. Always has been. Always will be. Even at 83, she is still doing hair. Just not in the way you would expect.

Director Lorraine Price directed the final episode of TSN’s lauded series Engraved On A Nation titled On The Line. On the Line was nominated for four Canadian Screen Awards including Best Series and Best Direction. Lorraine went on to win Best Direction Award and the Best Editing Award went to her editor, Pauline Decroix. On The Line was also nominated for a coveted Golden Sheaf Award for Best Bio/Historical Doc. Lorraine’s most recent film The Hairdresser had its world premiere at Hot Docs International Film Festival where it received an honorable mention for Best Canadian Short and finished second in the shorts Audience Choice Awards, followed by a US premiere at Atlanta Film Festival, and screenings in competition at Brooklyn Film Festival and AFI DOCS.
Editor Pauline Decroix has worked on a range of projects including documentaries, major game shows, a feature film, and TV series. Pauline won her first Canadian Screen Award for Best Editing on the documentary On The Line directed by Juliet Lammers and Lorraine Price. Pauline was also awarded the Canadian Cinema Editors Best Editing in a Short Film two years in a row.
Cinematographer Jacquelyn Mills shot and directed her first feature film For Wendy after graduating from Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema which won Canada’s Best New Director at the Montréal World Festival and Best Cinematography at TIFF 2008. Her sophomore fiction film Leaves screened at Telefilm’s Not Short on Talent, Cannes 2013. Jacquelyn’s first documentary In The Waves, which she directed and shot, was awarded Best Documentary and Best Edit at FIN Atlantic Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize at New Hampshire International Festival, and Best Medium Length Documentary at RIDM. In The Waves was also released at TIFF’s Lightbox Series.
