Sweet Talkin’ Guy | Sundance Selected Trans Comedy starring Miss Dylan
Trans dating comedy Sweet Talkin’ Guy from Spencer Wardwell and Miss Dylan to screen at 2025 Sundance Film Festival
Los Angeles, CA (January 23, 2024). Co-Director’s Spencer Wardwell and Miss Dylan’s wry comedy short Sweet Talkin’ Guy offers a biting commentary on modern dating and the delicate dance between desire, identity and authenticity. Inspired by Dylan’s own experiences, the story follows a twenty-something trans woman (played by Dylan) through a series of dates, as she navigates the men’s clumsy attempts at validation while maintaining their carefully constructed image.
Logline: A trans woman goes on three consecutive dates with straight men. As the men grapple with their fragile masculinity, their sexual identities unravel in frantic monologues ironically delivered to the object of their desires.
Spencer Wardwell is a writer-director whose work spans feature screenplays, commercials, and short films. His feature script Tillman was a semi-finalist in the 2023 Nicholl Fellowship and was subsequently optioned by Astute Films. Spencer’s background as GQ’s Director of Video led to directing commercial projects for major brands such as Nike, Ulta Beauty, and Urban Outfitters. Attending AFI for directing, Spencer wrote/directed the short “Boys of a Certain Age,” as his thesis film.
