Julien Lasseur’s hostage comedy Somebody Cares to screen at 2025 Sundance Film Festival

SOMEBODY CARES | Sundance Selected short by Julien Lasseur
Los, Angeles (January 9, 2024). Director Julien Lasseur puts a comedic spin on a hostage situation in the hilarious Sundance programmed short Somebody Cares. Written by Brian Groh, the story follows Barry (Shawn Parsons), a lonely middle-aged deadbeat who must convince his estranged sister to wire him his dead uncle’s inheritance before fate comes to collect.
The film was produced by 6 Degrees Films, a production company that recently added Julien to their commercial roster.
Julien Lasseur is a producer/director well traveled on the short film festival circuit. He holds multiple awards and bushels of “Official Selection” laurels attached to his films. (Camden International, Palm Springs International, Mill Valley, Heartland). In 2014 Julien reached the top 10 finalists in HBO’s Project Greenlight director competition. By 2015, Julien produced the Emmy Nominated web-series Everyone’s Crazy But Us for FunnyOrDie.
In 2019, Julien won Best Director at Denver’s SeriesFest for his major directorial debut. A series titled Palomino & Swissy with Adaptive Studios. Currently, Julien is in development, with his writing partner Brian Groh, on a feature film. It is starring Billy Crudup (The Morning Show, Almost Famous) and Freestyle Picture Company’s Kevin Chinoy. Plus Francesca Silvestri (The Florida Project, Suncoast).
