Short film SAVI THE CAT’s in contention at the Academy-qualifying Tribeca Film Festival

Los Angeles, CA (May, 31 2023). Savi The Cat is by Bryan Tucker and Netsanet Tjirongo. The two are the writers, directors and producers. This heart-warming short film shares the story of the highs and lows of a first-time cat owner. It is in selection from over 8k entries at the OSCAR-qualifying Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
Logline: When a devoted Kenyan husband surprises his new Black-American wife with an adorable kitten, neither are prepared for the destruction it wields upon their home, their life, and ultimately, their marriage.
Netsanet Tjirongo is an Emmy-nominated Ethiopian-Namibian filmmaker, educator, and community organizer. Primarily drawn to documentary and narrative filmmaking, her work focuses on the intersection of gender, race, sexuality, and immigration status. Netsanet is passionate about representation and empowering the next generation of storytellers and currently serves as the Director of Education at the Northwest Film Forum.

Bryan Tucker is a three-time regional Emmy award winning documentary filmmaker. Bryan has worked on a wide range of documentary, non-profit and commercial projects throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond, including for VICE, PBS, Seattle Seahawks, Yoga Behind Bars, and The Guardian, to name a few. His most recent short documentary, Flat Town, is broadcast nationally on PBS “Reel South.”
