Rodrigo Sorogoyen‘s heart wrenching film Mother wins nearly 95 high profile film awards and the top prize at the Goya Awards
Director Sorogoyen‘s Mother (Madre) shares the story of a young boy who gets separated from his mother. This intense tale has won numerous outstanding awards at festivals around the world, including the Goya Award for Best Fiction Short Film. The live action short stars one of Spain’s most popular actresses Marta Nieto.
While at home in her apartment with her own mother in Spain, a woman gets a phone call from her six-year-old son, who’s on holiday in France with his father. Every parent’s nightmare ensues.
Rodrigo Sorogoyen began working from a young age as a screenwriter for television. Along with three partners, he set up Caballo Films and directed their first film Stockholm. The film received excellent reviews and won multiple awards. Rodrigo also received a Goya nomination for Best New Director. His next film Que Dios nos Perdone won the Jury Award for Best Script at the San Sebastian Film Festival and the Goya for Best Actor for Álamo. Madre followed and in 2018 he will release his fourth film El Reino.
The lead actress Marta Nieto began her career in television in the TV series “Hospital Central” and in “Motivos Personales“, and has a long track record in the world of television. Nieto has worked on
such popular Spanish television shows as “Frágiles“, “Los hombres de Paco“, “Hermanos y detectives“, “Cuéntame como pasó“, “Mar de Plástico” and “El ministerio del tiempo“.
The beautiful cinematography was created by Alejandro de Pablo, edited by Alberto del Campo and the film was produced by María del Puy Alvarado and Rodrigo Sorogoyen (Malvalanda S.L. and Caballo Films).
