REVIEW: by Peter Nichols | A+
We love MARGUERITE. It is emotional, deeply moving and empathic
Marguerite is a live action short by writer and director Marianne Farley. Marguerite is about an ageing woman (Béatrice Picard) and her nurse (Sandrine Bisson) who grow a friendship that inspires Marguerite to unearth an old unacknowledged longing thus help her make peace with her past.
The revelation that her nurse, Rachel is dating a woman and not a man, shocks Marguerite at first but it slowly opens her up to the changing times and inspires her to unearth an unacknowledged longing about another woman Ceclie, whom she loved but never told. And both Marguerite and Rachel find some way to connect deeply and learn from each other’s experience.
Marguerite is an emotional film about regret, love, kindness, desire and empathy.
Marianne Farley’s vision to showcase the women’s needs, desires and aspirations are played out vividly on screen. She has told a story about a woman who breaks free from shackles: rules and conditioning that society has imposed on her, even if only for this one moment with Rachel.
Marguerite’s beautiful cinematography was created by Marc Simpson-Threlford and the music by Julien Knafo. Marguerite was produced by Marie-Hélène Panisset and is represented by H264 Distribution.
