Los Angeles, CA – Purple Beatz is a coming of age, music-driven, romantic drama, set in the underground drum ‘n’ bass music scene of 90’s London starring Izzy Jones (Distant), Erika Alexander (Abattoir, The Wives in the Attic), Aron Von Andrian (Masters Of The Air) and Steven Michael-O’Hara (Frenemies). Written and directed by Lola Atkins, an upcoming, exciting black British, female filmmaker.
Purple Beatz is a new British independent feature with a strong diverse, female-led cast and crew. The story is inclusive and diverse, a new take on a much-loved genre. The film had its premiere at the I Will Tell International Film Festival at the BFI Southbank and released in UK on VOD October 24th.
Early in her career, London-born Writer/Director Lola Atkins launched her own production house, EWAV WORKS. She also executive produced several productions including the psycho-thriller Stalker, the animation Being Red, thriller Bind Us Together and the documentary Citizens Today. Lola directed the award-winning short Hush, The Likelihood and Beats. Purple Beatz is her directorial feature debut.

Born and raised in Singapore to British parents, Izzy later moved to Hong Kong and is now based in London. She began at the National Youth Theatre, has a drama degree from the University of East Anglia and studied acting at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. Izzy has worked across off West End theatre and landed a studio feature film role playing Mia in the Sci-fi comedy ‘Distant’ directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon, due for release next year. She is in the process of writing a play.
Producer Jason Matthewson is an award-winning actor, producer, and writer. He is a partner at the London based film and TV production company, The Old Film farm. His producing credits include Suppression, That’s Just Me, Hatfields and more. Jason is the co-founder of the Gold Movie Awards®.
He is currently working on a comedy series Matchmakers, as well as the WW1 drama Charlie Safe Home. Jason is currently preparing for his next film, Hexed which he will produce and star.
