After winning the BAFTA newcomer award, British producer Oliver Ridge has gone from strength to strength, in simultaneous months two of his feature films have been selected for the world’s most prestigious and biggest film festivals. The Corner Office will open Tribeca Film Festival and Joyland will premiere in competition at Cannes Film Festival.
Joyland is set to be the first Pakistani-made film to be in official selection at Cannes. The film directed by Saim Sadiq shares a story of a sexual revolution that sees a traditional Pakistani family upended when their youngest son joins an erotic dance troupe and falls for its ambitious, transexual starlet.
The Corner Office is directed by Academy Award winner Joachim Back. This puzzling, intriguing, and stylized office satire will keep you riveted, questioning until the very end. The film stars Golden Globe and Emmy award winner Jon Hamm alongside Christopher Heyerdahl (Little Marvin’s anthology series THEM), Sarah Gadon (Most Dangerous Game), and Danny Pudi (Mythic Quest). This film is an adaptation of Jonas Karlsson’s existential novel The Room, about an office outsider finding a mysterious place of refuge.
Oliver Ridge is a British-born filmmaker who is a graduate of the prestigious Drama Centre acting school in London where notable alumni include Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, and Pierce Brosnan. Ridge has been making a name for himself by creating independent films all over the world. To understand film from an actor’s perspective, he also took a course in acting at the Vancouver film school.
After graduating from the Drama Centre with a Master of Arts degree in Acting, Ridge began his career behind the camera, cutting his teeth and producing his first indie film The Neighbour, starring William Fichtner and Michael Rosenbaum. Legendary author Stephen King tweeted his praise, giving the film a great deal of traction, and Ridge’s career began to build momentum.
His next feature film, Body Brokers‘ was top 3 on Netflix, the film shared a real-life story about insurance scams surrounding the opioid crisis in America and was acquired by HBO Max. His first documentary Valerie based on the life, career, and illness of actress Valerie Perrine – won the American Documentary Film Festival (AMDOC) and was in Oscar contention that year.
Ridge is currently developing his directorial debut SYNTHETIC, a violent science-fiction love story
Joyland premiered at Cannes this month and Corner Office premieres at Tribeca on June 9th, it will also screen on June 10th and June 15th.
