Singapore-born, Vancouver native Laura Mitchell has landed the ‘once in a lifetime’ role of portraying Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge, in the much-anticipated Lifetime movie ‘Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance’. The movie is set to premiere in the US and Canada on May 13th, 2018. Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance, follows Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s whirlwind romance. Meghan and Harry meet after being set up by friends and keep their initial courtship a secret before going public and dealing with the intense media attention. Parisa Fitz-Henley (Midnight Texas) plays the role of Meghan Markle, Murray Fraser (The Loch) has the role of Prince Harry, and Australian actor Burgess Abernethy portrays Prince William.
The film tells the story of the pair’s courtship, from their first date to the media circus that ensued once word of their relationship got out. Prince Harry and Markle announced their engagement in November last year. They will marry on May 19th, 2018 at St. George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Laura says, “Having the opportunity to play Kate was absolutely a dream come true. It was an amazing experience and everyone on the cast and crew worked so hard to bring this show to life and make sure to do the story justice. I just hope people have as much fun watching it as we did making it.”
Laura can be seen in a variety of films and TV shows. Most recently she worked on ‘Finding Santa’ (Hallmark), in the role of Amy, a high school friend of Jodie Sweetin’s character who helps show two potential lovebirds the magic of Christmas when they take refuge with her family during a storm. In ‘October Kiss’ (Hallmark) she plays Megan, a loving sister and matchmaker who wants her single sister to settle down and find love. In the indie ‘Poignant’, Laura plays a neurologist who is haunted by the spirit of a murdered girl. Amy goes mad in hopes of tracking down the girls’ murderer to help set her soul free. Other notable roles on ‘Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency’ (BBC America), ‘iZombie’ (CW), ‘Seasons Greeting’ (UPTV), ‘The Menendez Brothers: Blood Brothers’ (Lifetime) and ‘Christmas Bucket List’ (Hallmark).
Laura Mitchell was born in Singapore, she then lived in Jakarta until the age of three, when her parents moved to West Vancouver. Growing up around nature and the ocean had a huge effect on Laura’s imagination and creative desires as a child. She realized that she wanted to perform at a young age and was very active in theatre, musical theatre, piano, and art as a child by performing in a touring theatre troupe and singing / theatre competitions.
After deciding to pursue her passion for acting as a career, her years of dedication paid off, as she has been steadily on the rise and quickly making a name for herself. When she’s not working you can find her teaching and coaching at Rogues West Studio in Vancouver.
Laura has trained in Meisner with the acclaimed teacher Jaqueline McClintock in Montreal and in Vancouver at Lyric School of Acting, The Actors Foundry and with Ben Ratner, Ted Whittall, and Andrew Mcilroy.
Laura is also a passionate and avid traveller who makes it a priority to discover new cultures and ways of life by exploring somewhere new every year and plans to knock every country off her bucket list.
