Kennedy Moronta is our personality for this week. I had the privilege to interview a talented actor in the business. It was a charming interview that ensued.

My name is Kennedy Moronta. I was born and raised in New York. I am Hispanic. My parents are from the ‘Dominican Republic’, as a child I went to Catholic school, my parents knew I would get a better education there. My mother was a stay at home mom and my dad was a professional photographer in the Spanish industry: he was very well known and people loved him in the Spanish industry.

While I was growing up I was always involved in my fathers profession he would always involve me in his work. He taught me everything he knew so that I can follow his footsteps to become a professional photographer.

We worked on the field and at the photo studio/lab. He also would always interview me and have me perform in front of the camera. He knew I had a great talent because not only did I work well with the camera but also in front of the camera.

I studied the craft of acting at ‘Penny Templeton Studios’ in New York city there I studied Monologue, Improve, Script Analysis. My first time acting was when I did a student film 4 years ago at NYFA and it was so much fun and challenging it was a story (“Remember Me”) about two brothers that lost their parents in a car accident. I played the older brother (Lead Role). I always knew this business was my life and that I was destined to perform.

I do however think actors hold certain wrong impression about acting, this is why they rush into acting and nothing comes fast and easy, but if it does it won’t last long. Growing actors need to work hard, its about getting skilled, we all have talent but when you get skilled its a whole different story.

KM-kenFuture copyImprove is my preferred acting technique. I love to use improve very much, its so much fun. I also believe actors should keep taking acting classes. As as a matter of fact I will be going back into acting classes in 2013. It is important to continue to get skilled as your career moves forward

Right now I’m reading Uta Hagen’s “Respect for Actors”. She has been one of the most important acting teachers in America. She has written with wit and clarity about the technical craft of acting. Uta Hagen has had a profound influence on the way acting is practiced, taught and taught in the United States.

As an actor, I eat well and train at the gym at least 4 times in a week. I can run a mile in 7 minutes and 40 seconds, I also prepare my meals, as far as mentally same working out works best for me. And when I am offered a role, right away I start to study the script, next I memorize my lines then I am off to rehearsal. I consider preparation very important and being prepared is extremely important for an actor.

I work on the characters I play by applying it with my life experiences, take charge, and most important don’t act but become the character itself. On set, I try to stay fresh by making sure I stay focused on my character and the production and I do not let any distractions in my way.

I like to take initiative while working. On set during the film “Remember Me” I played the lead – Charlie, a photographer. There was a scene in the park where I saw my brother for the first time since we were young but he didnt know who I was and I suggested to the director that when I approach my brother I will catch his attention by pointing the camera in my brothers direction at the park cause its a great way to get closer then he ask me about the camera, which I bring to set as prop.

KM-IMG_5924The most memorable character I played was in Halo Helljumper Pilot. I played the role of ODST Jackson in 2011 its based on the xbox video game  it was such an amazing expireince on set i got to wear the armor. it was such a fun time playing a role in one of the games i always loved and played

I expect a great director to give me great direction and the opportunity to give my opinion and give ideas on the scene we working on. I would love to work with Denzel Washington

I like Denzel because his acting skills are exceptional, he is so gifted, I really respect and look up to him. I love all his acting roles

The advice I can give to actors is this; I would tell them that first off they need to love the craft. They need to know what kind of actor they want to be, what character they can play, to keep learning. The more you know the better. And keep networking as much as you can. I would also tell them this is a very competitive business they need to have a website, imdb, and of course great headshots. Who you know will put you on and how much you know will keep you in the business. Last thing I would tell them is they need to be patient.
