Los Angeles, CA – The Oscar® Qualifying HOLLYSHORTS FILM FESTIVAL returns for its much-anticipated 18th edition from August 11- 20th, 2022, from an impressive 5000 entries, 161 female directors and 101 BIPOC directors and nearly 400 films form this year’s exciting program.
Some of the stars and filmmakers featured this year include Academy Award Nominee® James Franco, Golden Globe and Grammy Nominee Wiz Khalifa, Emmy Nominee Colman Domingo, Rosario Dawson, Nina Dobrev, Penn Badgley, Emmy Award-winner Brian Cox, Academy Award nominee June Squibb, SAG Winner Zachary Levi and more. Leading films for the 18th edition include the psychological thriller film SEAFOAM, directed by award winning Australian/American filmmaker Izzy Stevens. Izzy Stevens, who also stars in Seafoam, is best known for her work alongside Ken Jeong and Temuera Morrison in sci-fi film franchise, Occupation: Rainfall (Netflix).

Seafoam also stars Dalia Rooni, Jae Kim, David Chernyavsky and Amy Punt. The 6 minute short film tells the story of Billy, who tumbles down the rabbit hole after visiting her mother in a psychiatric health ward and recognizing an orderly who works there. Suddenly, he’s everywhere…
Created by a cast and crew from over seven different nationalities, many of whom identify as female or LGBTQ+, Seafoam broaches the pervasive effects of surveillance and gender roles on mental health, hereditary mental illness, and the powerful trappings of our mind.
The film was shot in Los Angeles, CA and was written by Izzy Stevens and produced by Izzy Stevens, Moriah Hall, Charles Velasquez-Witosky, and David Chernyavsky.
As previously, the winners of HollyShorts’ three top prizes will be eligible for nomination at the 2023 Oscars®. Six HollyShorts films were nominated for the 2022 Academy Awards® with two wins for Aneil Karia and Riz Ahmed’s THE LONG GOODBYE and Ben Proudfoot’s THE QUEEN OF BASKETBALL.
This year’s hybrid celebration of short films will take place in-person with screenings at world-renowned TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood and virtually through the official festival streaming platform BITPIX. Seafoam is also an official selection of the 26th Annual LA Shorts International Film Festival and LA Independent Women Film Awards.

The annual Academy Awards® Qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival will celebrate its 18th year in August 2022. We brings together top creators, industry leaders, and companies. HSFF has launched many filmmakers into the next stages of their careers. It’s regular on MovieMaker Magazine’s “Top 50 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee list”. It also engages its community and spotlights short films year-round through monthly screenings, panels, and networking events. HSFF will take place in-person between August 11-20th, 2021 at TCL Chinese 6 Theatres. The annual Awards Gala set to take place on August 20th, 2022.

Bitpix is a new Premium AVOD platform, featuring the world’s best short films. It was born out of the Oscar® Qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival.
