Director Iona Morris Jackson Earns NAACP Image Award Nomination For Outstanding Director In A Comedy Series category for Her black-ish episode: If A Black Man Cries in the Woods (ABC)

Los Angeles, CA – Iona Morris Jackson has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award in the Outstanding Director In A Comedy Series category for her black-ish episode– “If A Black Man Cries in the Woods” (ABC). Her black-ish episode was also nominated in the Best Director category by the Hollywood Critics Association.

A veteran Theater director, Iona has a distinguished history  collaborating with actors to create their one-person shows and directing them. She’s now successfully moving from one medium (Directing theater) to another, Directing Television and Film. Her father, the legendary Greg Morris (Mission Impossible) had an unprecedented career, and she was influenced by this history for decades, which together with her own creative journey has prepared her for this moment.

Winners will be revealed during the 54th NAACP Image Awards telecast on Feb. 25 on BET. NAACP will also recognize winners in non-televised categories Feb. 20-24, streaming on naacpimageawards. Iona previously wrote, directed and Executive Produced her short CELESTE’S DREAMS, an official selection at 13 festivals including Canadian & International Short Film Festival (Award Winner), Marbella International Film Festival (nominee), and the Pan African Film Festival.

Iona has an extensive background in Theater.  She directed the one man show, BELAFONTE: UNAUTHORIZED starring Austen Jaye, and SASSY MAMAS, which she also starred in, winning Best Director at the NAACP Theatre Awards.

She also wrote and starred in FOR YOU, her solo show about her father, the legendary Greg Morris from the hit ’70’s series MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, winning a Best Solo Performance Award from the NAACP Theatre Awards.

Iona directed & co-wrote the star-studded sold out concert event, BROADWAY UNDER THE STARS: 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF DREAMGIRLS starring the 3 originals Loretta Devine, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Jennifer Holliday.

She also has an amazing track record directing solo shows. A sampling of her numerous credits includes collaborations with artists such as: JENIFER LEWIS, BLAIR UNDERWOOD, PENNY JOHNSON JERALD, TAMMI MAC, KIM WAYANS, MICHEL COLYAR, among many others.
