WRITER INTERVIEW: An interview with the creators and writers of Gypsi
We (Angel & Mysti Cozart) write with a dramatic flair. The characters we create are believable. You would want to understand and hello as they pass by in our fictional town of Lisette.
We have both been writing since we were in elementary school. We were always the first to write book reports and learned to relate to the characters in the stories. We both have attended many workshops, in the city of Nashville; there are always instructors and workshops to attend. We received our broadcast media degrees in radio and television as well from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in Orlando Florida.
We have read everything from the classics such as Jane Eyre, to sense and all the way to indulging into the likes of E.L. James and her trilogy of “Fifty Shades of Grey. Nora Roberts of course is a favorite, the twilight series and the vampire diaries. The most important book for either of is the holy bible. Our faith is strong and we believe it is our foundation for all we envision.
We constantly read, research and stay on top of pop culture and current events. We explore other writing genres and never limit our imaginations.
When we write, we put ourselves in the character’s shoes. We do our best at bringing the character to life. We not only envision the character, we would have already planned out the character’s wardrobe, the tone of his voice, all the way to his facial expression. Our process is similar to picking your fantasy football league players. We have ‘people’ in mind or characters and write their dialogues in a way that let’s our writing come through but also allowing the character to shine and come through the actor so that they can deliver the dialogue. We create character/actor to be one.
‘Gypsi’ is quite a memorable character. She is head strong, a loner, she discovers that she has a heritage that will allow her to discover traditions and powers that she never knew existed within her. She will discover that her journey will not only lead to family, culture and mystery, but also to love.
We desire to work alongside a director who can see the same vision we see. Someone who can take our story and bring it to life in a cohesive way that allows our story to be even more than words on paper and create our own little town that you want to walk down the street in. We like to work with a director who makes it a cohesive experience, someone who can take an idea and bringing it to life.
We are currently in pre-production for the pilot episode of ‘gypsi’.
For writer out there, first of all, you must believe in yourself. Believe in the characters you create, hone your skills by flowing writing and acting workshops, and know the correct format to present your story, i.e.; Celtx or Final draft. Never give up, don’t limit yourself and as long as you have imagination, you will have stories to tell.
J.J. Abrams is our favorite writer and director. J.J. Abrams made you believe that Sydney Bristow was in fact a true CIA agent. He brought her character to life so much; we were tempted to join the ranks. He is just a genius in the way he helps the audience become involved with his characters. Everyone wanted Sydney to be their confidant, friend, and protector of sorts. There wasn’t anything Sydney couldn’t do.
So we advise that young writers continue to hone their craft. Write because you love it and never give up, continue to be creative and think outside the box.
The most recent project is our ‘gypsi’-www.mysisx2.com. Check out our Facebook page as well and stay up to date on the project through our twitter feed as well. Our careers began at a young age, but mostly from writing lyrics for music projects in Nashville, Tennessee. We have both been on television, country music videos, TV shows can you duet, and small indie film projects for film schools in Nashville. We would like to keep you updated on our works and ‘Gypsi’ is going to be the story that makes us a household name.
