Q: Did you study acting?
Jamie Long: I have never been to acting school, I got the bug early on in life when I became a red coat at 16 on a holiday park, I leant most of my acting from doing that job, now I go to some clases and I do different things to help improve myself as you can never learn to much, but I think the more films and tv you do the more you learn from other actors and tips from each other.
Q: What acting technique do you use?
Jamie Long: The technic I use is the Stanislavski’s system, I like this method because I feel an actor needs to emotionally connect in the character to give it the possible portray if that makes sense, so if you have a character that is emotional then you need to get in to the character’s head so you can portray him.
Q: Do you take courses to improve your craft?
Jamie Long: I do several courses to improve, Acting Workshops, martial arts, driving, horse riding, stage combat, various stunt stuff, singing and dancing.
Q: What acting books do you read?
Jamie Long: An Actor Prepares by Constantin Stanislavski, Sanford Meisner on Acting by Dennis Longwell, Stella Adler: The Art of Acting
Q: How do you keep fit: mentally & physically?
Jamie Long: I do a lot of physical training like my martial arts and dancing, so that keeps me pretty fit and then I write songs, which I have 2 Charity singles coming out, and currently making my own film survivor so that keeps my brain fit and active
Q: How do you prepare for a role?
Jamie Long: I prepare myself for the role/character by reading the script and story line, and getting as much information as I can about my character then I practice when in the bath or if I have spare time when my kids are in bed, I think it is very important to learn your character so you can give it 100percent.
Q: How do you create a character from a script?
Jamie Long: This is a tough question, I guess the key point is you have to read the script and story line and what the character role is then you have to visualize what that character would be like and then build up a profile and start molding in to the character.
Q: How do you stay fresh on a production set?
Jamie Long: I stay fresh by drinking loads of coffee, and I stay in character by usually not talking to loads of people, but if I do talk to people I stay in my character which can be quite funny at times, its key that you don’t lose the character.
Q: Explain one creative choice you made on set?
Jamie Long: It was on the film obey, I was a police officer and I was going to a colleague that was unconscious and needed cpr, the director asked me to make it as realistic as possible using the radio calling for help etc., whilst my colleague was doing cpr. We did the first take and the director, and everyone was like” oh my god we felt that and it felt very real they thought they were in a real situation”. That was a nice confidence booster and I had a big smile for days
