Intermedium, Mainframe Pictures’ newest short from Emmy® Award-winning director Erik Bloomquist (The Cobblestone Corridor, Long Lost) and screenwriter Taylor Turner is now available online. Erik Bloomquist is a two-time Emmy® winner (Outstanding Writer & Outstanding Director) and top 200 Director on HBO’s Project Greenlight.
Described as a Ryan Murphy-esque fusion of Casper and La La Land, the 21-minute supernatural romance tells the story of an obsessive-compulsive teenager named Bridget Daugherty (Emily Keefe) who finds herself struggling to co-exist with the ghost of a boy named Kyle Donovan (Beau Minniear), who haunts her family’s new home. Bloomquist notes in a Director statement: “The film explores what it is to see and be seen—and why the smallest moments of intimacy are often the most profound.“

The film was awarded several distinctions over the course of its successful festival run—including Best Short Film at Sanford Film Festival and Best Short Screenplay at Mystic Film Festival—as well as screening at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre as part of the Oscar-qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival.
Since its release, praise for Intermedium has been near-universal: Film Threat’s review is rife with acclaim and concludes by describing it as “an authentic, heart-rendering romantic drama that will leave viewers floored.” Richard Propes of The Independent Critic, meanwhile, lauds Keefe’s performance as “absolutely dynamite” (Keefe won Best Actress in a Short at Reading Film Festival) and likens Minniear to “a more wistful” James Dean, predicting that the young actor is “just waiting to be discovered.”
Viewers can stream Intermedium on Amazon Prime Video, or purchase it at Vimeo On Demand. In addition, ShortsTV will air the film later this year.
Director/Producer Erik Bloomquist is best known for creating the nationally syndicated TV Series The Cobblestone Corridor for which he won 2 New England Emmy® Awards (Outstanding Writer and Outstanding Director). Bloomquist’s debut feature is currently available on VOD worldwide after a nationwide limited theatrical run. His horror short She Came from the Woods accumulated myriad Grand Jury Prizes and Best of Fest awards over its yearlong theatrical run. Bloomquist is a Top 200 Director on HBO’s Project Greenlight and a member of Connecticut Magazine’s 40 Under 40: Class of 2019.
Writer/Producer Taylor Turner holds a BFA in Drama with a minor in Creative Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. His credits as an actor include Crashing (HBO), The Cobblestone Corridor (PBS), the horror-comedy feature Lillith, and short film campaigns produced by Kodak and Polaroid. Onstage, he appeared in the American stage premiere of Lars von Trier’s Dogville (directed by Robert O’Hara) and received the Excellence in Acting Award for his performance in The Illusory Adventures of a Dreamer at the New York Fringe Festival. He is currently adapting and developing Intermedium into a feature length screenplay.
