Los Angeles, CA – October 19, 2021 – Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group/Entertainment Studios, has acquired North American VOD rights to the Venezuelan documentary LA DANUBIO. LA DANUBIO will be available to rent and own on North American digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms on November 9, 2021, through Freestyle Digital Media.
LA DANUBIO is a documentary infused with optimism that highlights a Venezuela very different from the one constantly featured in the news nowadays. Centering around a thriving, resilient, and hard-working country fighting to stay afloat, LA DANUBIO provides an inside look at how the most famous pastry shop in the Venezuelan capital works. From the voice of its protagonists, we learn about the bittersweet family dynamics of the Kerese family, mainly Evelia and her three children – Pablo, Andrés, and Alejandro; and discover the secret behind the success of this family business, which has managed to thrive for 50 years and counting, while becoming an icon in the culinary circles and idiosyncrasy of Caracas.
Written, directed, and produced by Venezuelan filmmaker Ignacio Castillo Cottin, known for his acclaimed work in the feature films EL INCA (2016) and LA VIRGEN NEGRA (2008), LA DANUBIO features the Kerese family: Evelia Kerese, Alejandro Kerese, Pablo Kearse, and Andres Kearse.

“Living in Venezuela, staying here out of your own free will is something worth telling Today. For people who want to work and invest in Venezuela, for them to visualize themselves in the country in the mid or long term is something rare to find,” said filmmaker Ignacio Castillo Cottin. “My generation and the ones that follow are only familiar with the opposite: people fleeing from the Country as soon as they can. That sparked in me an emotional connection with the Kereses, with this project and with other people who like me, are working in and for a better country, fighting to recover the Venezuela that once was.”
