Freckles – Denise Papas Meechan, Jenn Halweil, Jane Dashow

My mom says her freckles are kisses from God but they’re just where her demons hide.

Lizzie is a 30 year-old, hopelessly lonely virgin desperate for anyone to love her but she has a handicap- her freckles. Her mother would tell her that each freckle is a kiss from God but Lizzie doesn’t see them that way at all. Her freckles have mutated in her mind to be the reason for all that is wrong and all that is missing in her life. The reason she can’t lift her head up as she walks. The reason people stare at her with pity as she walks down the street. The reason no man would ever love her. Freckles is an explosive narrative look of the damaging effects cultural body standards and body dysmorphia have on one lonely woman.
