What They Had is a 2018 American drama film written and directed by Elizabeth Chomko, and starring Hilary Swank, Michael Shannon, Robert Forster, Blythe Danner, Taissa Farmiga, and Josh Lucas. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival back in January 21, 2018, and it will be released in the United States on October 12, 2018 by Bleecker Street.

Elizabeth Chomko, WHAT THEY HAD centers on a family in crisis. Bridget (Hilary Swank) returns home to Chicago at her brother’s (Michael Shannon) urging to deal with her ailing mother (Blythe Danner) and her father’s (Robert Forster) reluctance to let go of their life together.
Elizabeth Chomko is an American director and writer best known for What They Had (2018). She is also a playwright and theatre actress, and has appeared in television and film roles on Terriers (2010), Common Law (2012), and South Boston Legal (2014) among others. Her screenplay for What They Had (2018) won an Academy Nicholl Fellowship in 2015. She is originally from Chicago, Illinois.
