indieactivity: Who influenced you to work in the entertainment industry, and how long have you worked?
Cody Renee Cameron (CRC): I absolutely adore all the late 90s/early 2000s rom-com actresses like Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johansson. I love Scarlett’s transformation from shy girlfriend type in Lost in Translation to badass Marvel superhero type! Same with Charleze Theron! She is just magical! I was lucky enough to attend the cast & crew premiere for Bombshell, where she spoke after the screening. She was so inspiring!
I’ve been working in the L.A. entertainment industry for 11 years. I started with glamor modeling, then moved into television and film acting, and then stunts! I’ve doubled for a lot of girls on motorcycles. I love a good adrenaline rush! Haha.

You’ve been part of the popular Mayans M.C. and El Camino, A Breaking Bad Movie. Can you tell us about your experience with those projects?
Cody Renee Cameron (CRC): I was totally obsessed with Sons of Anarchy because it was playing when I first learned to ride motorcycles, to then be an SOA girlfriend within the Mayan’s series was an absolute dream come true! I had just finished watching Good Girls, so to be in a scene with Manny Montana made me feel a little starstruck! And getting directed by creator Elgin James- I mean, it was just so cool!
Likewise, to be on set with Aaron Paul and getting directed by Vince Gilligan was just mind-blowing. Like, I’m just this silly little girl from the south, and now I’m playing with TV royalty! I was in Albuquerque for a week with the Breaking Bad team. On an off day, a couple of us went shooting at the gun range. Vince really allowed us to improv and give our input- I got to adlib a line about wanting to go home and be with my dog (Cheetoh), and if you know me in real life (or from the Internet), you know I’m obsessed with my dog! I mean, I just had an absolute blast!

Any interesting stories from filming?
Cody Renee Cameron (CRC): In The Deuce (HBO), we used a prop penis, and I had to pretend to give it a blow job. That was a first! And maybe a last! Haha!
Can you explain a creative choice you took on the set of production?
Cody Renee Cameron (CRC): On Girls, Guns, and Blood, the stunt team and I had a couple of drinks and then decided we were going to choreograph my whole fight for the next day, and I added a hurricana which is like a wrestling move where you jump on someone with your legs around their neck and kind of almost do a back handspring to flip them over you. So fun!
What lessons did you learn from filming?
Cody Renee Cameron (CRC): I’ve really learned to play with my emotional realm and also patience. Oh my gosh, so much patience! And to always be open to explore possibilities with the director and other players in your scene. Sometimes you go into a scene thinking it’ll be one way, but acting is just reacting to everything happening to you. Sometimes on a take, it happens differently than you imagined or rehearsed, and you just go with it, and that ends up being the best because it’s so authentic!

What other projects have had an impact on your career?
Cody Renee Cameron (CRC): Girl Lost: A Hollywood Story was challenging because it was my first lead in a movie and my first evil character in a drama! I’d done a lot of comedy and horror up until then, which is a different style of acting with totally different timing. I really grew a lot from that movie and also looked up to the female creator, writer, director, and producer Robin Bain as a mentor.
What new projects do you have coming out?
Cody Renee Cameron (CRC): I’m really excited about a movie I just filmed called Porterville that will be out in a year. Coming soon, I also have Waking up Dead with Traci Lords. I loved her in Cry Baby. I’m also hoping a pilot I shot called Boned gets picked up! I play a motorcycle riding stripper/mechanic! Plus, I’ll be filming a sequel to Trophy Heads for Full Moon Features next month. So many things for which to keep your eyes peeled!
