The Lorena Gordon Interview
indieactivity: What is your film about?
Lorena Gordon (LG): It is a coming of age heart-felt tale about a shy timid high school girl, who reveals her truth during the most important nights of the year. It’s a personal piece that I wrote because I wasn’t a fan of actual prom in high school, so I wanted to vicariously live through Lauren’s journey.
Tell us about the festival run, marketing and sales?
Lorena Gordon (LG): We just premiered HollyShorts. Waiting to hear back from festivals for 2021.
Give the full Official Synopsis for your film?
Lorena Gordon (LG): “Lauren (Katie Burton) is your typical high school senior. She’s learning to come into her own. With the help of her best friend, James, (Zack Gottsagen) she will finally step out of her shell and live her truth. Lauren comes from a deep-rooted Hispanic family with her father Diego, (George Lopez) and her mother Monica, (Marlene Forte). They had hopes and expectations for their only daughter.”
Development & Financing?
LG: I wrote the script to At Last about a year ago. It was something I needed to get off my chest. I gathered a team of producers who believed in my vision and off we went. I was able to cast my dream actors for these roles: Zack Gottsagen, Gorge Lopez, Marlene Forte, Tricia Brooks, and Katie Burton.
Production?
LG: We started filming in January of 2020. We shot for three days in and around Los Angeles. We had only three days that whole month where my cast was available and in town. George Lopez was on a nationwide tour, but luckily we found a date to make it work. We were in the beginning of the edit when the lock-down happened. I knew there was no rush and wanted to take our time in post. We took the longest post and completed the film in October of 2020.
Festival Preparation & Strategy?
LG: We are just embarking on our festival journey. So far it’s been going well. We want as many people to see it, and they have been able to since festivals are virtual now.
The Release?
LG: We are first doing the festival circuit.
Advice from the Filmmaker?
LG: Don’t quit. This film is a testament that you can never give up on your dreams.
