indieactivity: Welcome to indieactivity!
Cameron Cowperthwaite (CC): Hey! Thank you so much for reaching out and taking the time!
Who influenced you to become an actor, and how long have you been working in the industry so far?
Cameron Cowperthwaite (CC): I went to the movies every weekend with my dad for like 15 years. Sometimes we would even do double features. I have seen a lot of stuff, but I love many people’s work. I think Tom Cruise makes brilliant cinema. Top Gun: Maverick, which I was lucky enough to read for, was amazing. I love Robert Pattinson, and Mads Mikkelsen. My two favorite movies are V for Vendetta and There Will Be Blood. They are my go-to’s for inspiration.
You’re part of American Horror Stories. Can you talk a bit about it?
Cameron Cowperthwaite (CC): Yes! I would love to because I feel so honored to be a part of it. Ryan Murphy is one of the greatest people to work with in this business. He is so loyal and so lovely; he puts together the best team anyone can imagine to get the job done. We all got to express our creativity on this one, and I really loved getting to play the role of Charlie. Now that it’s aired, I hope people really love the characters and, of course, the twist. I mean, shooting the grave scene was …. something else. But I was so blessed to have such an amazing co-star in Madison. She really put this episode on her back, and I just did my best to keep up!

What is the best thing that happened while you were filming?
Cameron Cowperthwaite (CC): I loved shooting the final scene. I have to admit; it was a little weird filming such a dramatic, emotional, and deranged scene at 8 in the morning. But I love theatre. The stage is somewhere I want to find myself one day, and that felt the closest to doing a play I’ve ever experienced. It was an 8-9 page scene with just Madison and I going back and forth in a tennis match, essentially. I was so grateful to have that memory and experience.
Can you explain a creative choice you took on the set of production?
Cameron Cowperthwaite (CC): I am huge on character look. If I am in the clothes, the makeup, and the jewelry. I mean, down to the underwear even. That really transports me. And I really felt this Robert Pattinson, Kurt Cobain vibe from this character, and I drew a lot of inspiration there for the getup. I was happy even the dark eyeliner made it into the look of the character. I was really happy!
Did you learn anything from filming that has helped your career?
Cameron Cowperthwaite (CC): I feel like each job gives you new confidence. I think being able to take on this material and responsibility helps with the confidence to want bigger things for oneself. I really loved being able to lead an episode with Madison, and I hope that I get to do something like that again soon!
Have you been able to connect with the horror genre fans due to your involvement?
Cameron Cowperthwaite (CC): Yes! The fans of American Horror Story and American Horror Stories are brilliant. They are so special, and they make the series what it is. I mean, AHS going into its 11th season is because of them. So I feel blessed to be a huge part of the zeitgeist of this series. I hope the fans see this; thank you so much!
What is next for you?
Cameron Cowperthwaite (CC): I’ve been very blessed to have worked a couple of times this year. I have a film coming out next year that was written and directed by Tom Schulman, which was a wonderful experience. I also have two other things coming out, one this fall and one next fall, though I can’t talk about them just yet! It’s so hard with these NDAs and all the secrecy! But I am very, very excited.
