Timely, hilarious and grounded in character, Homebound is a love letter to the struggles and perseverance of the homeless, people looking for independence and any searching for a place to call home. My father, a physician, shares with me the stories and brings me to the front lines of care for people that don’t have money for proper preventative health, treatments or even a place to call home. For some, it’s their tent, car, or shelter. It’s inspiring.
indieactivity: How long did you take to complete the script?
Brianna Seamster (BS): The writing processes took a couple months with table reads and edits. It was a fun process.
When did you form your production company (do you have one?) – and what was the original motivation for its formation?
Brianna Seamster (BS): I started using the name Royale Media Group as my loan out to home in on my inner Queen whenever I write, but I have a collective production company called Dope TV Production with my co-founders Hakim Hill and Tiffany Beacham.
What was the first writing project that you were involved with or that was out of the gate?
Brianna Seamster (BS): I created and completed my first project in 2017 called Million Dollar Questions. It is a web series and available on Facebook.
During the production of the trailer or proof of concept, what scene (that made the cut) was the hardest to shoot?
Brianna Seamster (BS): Honestly, nothing was hard actually. It was so much fun to shoot! I had a great time working with the cast. It was the hardest to watch my lead actors act because I would be laughing so hard and mess up the take!! They were so good!
What works better in this latest production that mightn’t have worked so well in the last one you did?
Brianna Seamster (BS): Having a Production Designer was SO necessary and helped out so much! I will always have a production designer!
Where do you think your strengths lie as a filmmaker?
BS: My strengths align heavily in wearing many hats and seeing the bigger picture. “The brain of a showrunner” many would tell me.
Let’s talk about finance. How did you finance the trailer for the film?
BS: With my own money and from some personal investments from people that support my work.
How important is marketing? Do you think a project can make any dent without it these days?
BS: Marketing and spreading the word about your work is always important. Whether you post about it on your Instagram or have a million dollar campaign…, anything helps. Get your work out there! Even word of mouth is great. Tell the world or else no one will know it’s even out.
What do you hope audiences get from your film after you finally make it?
BS: Homelessness doesn’t have one face and even in the world of homelessness there is a need to find the silver lining.
Do you have the feature script written? If you have it, tell us about it? How do you expand a short into a feature length script?
BS: The pilot script is written. I came up with the trailer after I wrote the full pilot episode.
What else have you got in the works?
BS: I have a full slate of projects: a dark comedy, a coming of age drama and an animation. Can’t wait to show the world these amazing characters and stories.
