INDIE FILM: The Urban Comedy ‘Black Coffee’ proves the state of black film is getting stronger and more creative
“If people want to have a great time with loved ones, family and friends or on a romantic date, “Black Coffee” is a great movie to watch. It will start conversations and raise eyebrows to the average viewer,” said Darrin Dewitt Henson. “It is a feel good movie with a great twist and a lovely ending.”
In Black Coffee, Robert (Darrin Henson) picked the wrong time to meet his soul mate! After being fired from his own father’s company, he feels like his luck has run out – until Morgan (Gabrielle Dennis) enters into his life. Just as things start to heat up between them, trouble brews as Morgan’s ex-husband (Lamman Rucker) vows to get her back and Robert’s gold-digging ex-girlfriend (Erica Hubbard) returns with an agenda of her own. With the help of his cousin (Christian Keyes), Robert’s about to find out how much good can come out of a bad situation in this charming romantic comedy that’s good to the last drop.
Both Henson and Rucker are excited about the flux of African-American film projects that show the demographic in a positive light.
“I think really what’s happening is people are adapting to the technology that has become available. Black people arenot often considered mainstream,” Rucker said. “We have also been responsible for writing our own stories. I think it’s encouraging that we have the knowledge and talent and skill. I am excited about it. “
According to Henson, “The state of black film is getting stronger and more creative and all we have to keep doing is the work.”
