Adam & The Water is about Adam, riddled by inhibitions is trapped in mundane existence of 9 to 5 in NYC. Nearing the brink of personal and mental collapse, he meets Eva. As she enters Adams’s life, the void starts to dissipate, and a new, ethereal world guides him toward self-realization. Will Adam succumb to the crippling reality he has created for himself or rise to a free and accepting one? This is a surreal debut from filmmaker Matthew Appleby. It is an intimate exploration of mental health, dependence on technology, relationships, and the conflicting worlds of fantasy and reality.
Written and directed by Matthew Appleby, Adam & The Water was produced by Appleby, Matt Consalvo, and Ben Dally. Adam & The Water stars Qado as ‘Adam’ and Elisa Alemparte as ‘Eva.’ Adam & The Water won the “Best of Fest” Award at the Washington DC Independent Film Festival. “Best Romantic Drama Feature” at the Manhattan Film Festival. And “Best Micro-Budget Feature” at the Paris Independent Film Festival.

“There are very intense effects on our mental health that result from our fast-paced, competitive, information-heavy way of life,” said filmmaker Matthew Appleby. “Endless hours on our phones, online dating, social media apps, money and career determining our overall value, and constant comparison with our peers… all of these have an effect. ADAM & THE WATER explores the pressures of finding success, the difficulties in feeling satisfied with our everyday lives, and how society’s expectations can break us.”
Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the deal to acquire ADAM & THE WATER directly with the producers.
