The award-winning film A Syrian Woman depicts firsthand accounts of the refugee crisis by eight Syrian women living in Jordan. It is a story that illuminates the challenges so many women face after their displacement, highlighting their resilience and determination in the face of sustained adversity. This is a film of hope and the powerful human transformation that occurs as they summon their inner strength to rise from the ashes and rebuild a life.
Director Louis Sayad DeCaprio is an American commercial and commercial filmmaker of Syrian-Italian descent. During his travels, he has shot for brands such as Johnny Walker, Segway, Veronica Beard, and Oscar de la Renta. In his narrative work, he has been shortlisted as a Sundance Screenwriting Labs finalist. He is most passionate about sharing global stories of human perseverance in the face of trauma, loss, and displacement. He is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Director and Producer Khawla Al Hammouri is Jordanian-Palestinian. At the age of 23, she co-founded Meel Productions, dedicated to advancing the craft and exposure of Jordanian media. Her interest in topics related to social issues, women’s rights and refugees can be seen throughout her work as a journalist for Roya news and writer for Al Jazeera. She holds a degree in Media Production and Communication from Petra University.
A Syrian Woman screened at St. Louis International Film Festival and Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. It was also scheduled to play in competition at Sarasota Film Festival and Minneapolis St Paul International Film Festival but due to the Coronavirus outbreak, these film festivals have been postponed.
