Rock, Paper, Scissors by Franz Böhm is a gripping and emotional war drama longlisted for the 2025 BAFTAs
Los Angeles, CA (January 13, 2024). Rock, Paper, Scissors is based on a true story from the ongoing conflict between Ukraine-Russia. Rock, Paper, Scissors explores themes of resilience, courage and sacrifice in the face of the cruel randomness of war. The story follows the harrowing journey of Ivan a 17-year-old Ukrainian boy. And, his father, who find themselves trapped in a make-shift bunker as war rages on around them. The short is in nomination for Best International Film at the Oscar-qualifying Show Me Shorts Film Festival 2024. It is on the longlist in the British Short Film category for the 2025 BAFTAs.
Logline: Ivan and his father operate a makeshift hospital at the frontline of war. They face a test when a platoon of soldiers approach their building. The two make a difficult decision to protect their patients and their own lives.
Writer-Director Franz Böhm from Stuttgart, Germany, directed his first film, Harmonie Der Anderen at age 16. For the German TV Channel ZDF. Franz created the documentary Christmas Wishes. Showcasing homeless youth’s lives which is in selection as the opening for the German Youth Film Awards. Franz then directed a short drama, Good Luck, which premiered at the British Independent Film Festival. Franz’s debut Dear Future Children, won audience award at its world premiere at the 42nd Max-Ophüls- Preis Film Festival. The film is a nomination for the First Steps Award and won audience. It also won a main jury awards at the 2022 German Documentary Awards. The film is in distribution in over 40 countries and watched by over 90,000 cinema- goers. It is in release on Netflix DACH.
Producer Hayder Hoozeer is a BAFTA Kirsh Scholarship 2020-2022. And a Toledo scholarship (by renowned producer and former chairman of BAFTA Duncan Kenworthy). This was to pursue a Producing Fiction MA at The National Film & Television School. From a background of homelessness, Hayder’s inspiration by how people’s lives impact their sense of self & perspective. Also how using film as escapism can help those enduring hardships. SAYAH (SHADOW) had its World Premiere at the Academy Award® Qualifying Film Festival. ShortShorts 2024 in Japan where it was in nomination for an audience award.
It was also an official selection for the Academy Award® Qualifying, Cleveland International Film Festival 2024. And the Academy Award® Qualifying, Bronze Lens Film Festival 2024. OCRAS was an official selection at BAFTA Qualifying Bolton International Film Festival 2023. And, it was the long-list for “Best Student Short Film,” and “Best British Director.” Plus “Best Production Design” at The British Short Film Awards 2023. Hayder is now developing and producing a slate of short, feature & TV projects under his production label ‘WHO’S HERE? PRODUCTIONS’.
