Single mother entrepreneur from the deprived cornerstones of South-East London, built up her empire from scratch.

Los Angeles, CA (October 23, 2024). With over 25 years of industry experience and a diverse background in acting, filmmaking, and business, Aysha creates impactful films addressing social injustices, especially celebrating Black British-Caribbean culture. Her short film Dismissed garnered over a million YouTube views, influencing young audiences, educational institutions, and anti-bullying organizations.

Dismissed is a social impact film, that was made to raise awareness around key signs of bullying in the classroom. You are not alone in this and hope the film can make a difference to how bullying in schools is looked at and handled.

Logline: A compassionate catholic teacher panics when she finds a worrying note in her classroom and attempts to discover the vulnerable pupil who wrote it – will it be too late?

As a leading figure in filmmaking, Aysha drives positive change through her commitment to diversity and equality. Her upcoming feature Angel, set to shoot in 2025, tells a gripping story inspired by her real-life single parenting experiences, echoing the struggles of many.

Aysha’s unconventional journey into filmmaking inspired her to create the Filmmaking Planner, a tool for aspiring filmmakers. Her dedication to inclusivity is evident through her selection for prestigious programs like the BFI Berlinale Cohort 2023. By sharing her expertise, she paves the way for a more diverse, equitable future in filmmaking.

Aysha Scott Discusses Her Journey and LA Launch of the Filmmaking Planner

Aysha’s journey is a testament to the power of collaboration. The Filmmaking Planner embodies this spirit, providing aspiring filmmakers with the tools they need to turn their visions into reality. However, she recognizes the challenges she faced entering an industry where Black female narratives were often overlooked.

This lack of representation fueled her transition from acting to filmmaking, leading her to create A Scott Productions—a platform to share the stories she craved to see on screen. Furthering this mission, she established A Scott Academy in 2018, training hundreds of young people with the skills they need in filmmaking, creative writing, and acting, ensuring a future generation of diverse storytellers has the opportunity to thrive.

“Filmmaking is my passion,” says Aysha. “It’s about bringing a project to life, from script development to assembling a talented team. Every step matters, from building marketing and business strategies to finding innovative management approaches. Film has been my savior from a very young age. Growing up in a deprived community fueled by violence and crime, it gave me hope for the future, which I now seek to pour into others.”

Aysha will be sharing her filmmaking journey and insights on the Filmmaking Planner at the British Films Market 2024 on 9th and 10th November from 12am to Sunday 10th at 6pm. The address is Charter Academy North Dulwich, 34 Red Post, SE24 9JH, London, United Kingdom.
