The Exploding Boy: The micro-budget queer coming-of-age comedy offers an up-beat alternative to reboots, remakes, and sequels.

Portland, Oregon (April, 11, 2024). The Exploding Boy is now available to rent or purchase on various  streaming platforms. After a successful film festival run, screening in multiple countries and winning numerous awards including best actor and best dramatic feature at the Oregon Independent Film Festival, the delightfully inventive film received distribution and is available on Amazon Prime, Prime UKVimeo, TLA, GaybingeTV and FearlessTV.

TM Gay Films calls The Exploding Boy “an engaging gay film you can’t miss. A new gay cinema favorite.”

Synopsis: The Exploding Boy follows Alex Silver, a creative but lonely teen who dreams of becoming the next Jim Henson. Unfortunately, his life is no happy puppet show. His dad is overbearing, his school is oppressive, and even people in the neighborhood seem out to get him. But everything changes when a charismatic transfer student enters his life.

A Filmmaker’s Promise
As a queer filmmaker, and as someone who grew up starved for queer characters and representation, Monty Wolfe has made a vow to only produce queer-oriented media. His films run the gamut from decadent to wholesome, grounded to surreal, but always aim to leave the audience with positivity and hope. The Exploding Boy is no different. Written during the lonely days of the Covid-19 lockdown, the film emphasizes the importance of friendship and community. Monty told Willamette Week, “when I was cut off from people, I realized how important they were.”
