indieactivity: What is your film about?
Cecilia Albertini (CA):
Daughterhood is a 11 minute short film but is also the first episode of our dark comedy web series, about the dysfunctional relationship between Carrie, an alcoholic, controlling stage mother and her adult daughter, Megan. Carrie does everything in her power to ensure that Megan will become a famous actress, often with disastrous, humiliating results for both of them.

The story was born out of our mutual experience (Cecilia Albertini & Carmela Corbett) of being actresses in our 20’s. We wanted to share some of the joy, madness, hilarity, and painful moments we have both encountered on the way. Alongside exploring a loving but flawed and nuanced mother daughter relationship. We often feel that this isn’t fully explored on screen in a three dimensional fashion and therefore have endeavored to do so.

Cecilia Albertini (CA):
DAUGHTERHOOD is a dark comedy web series about the dysfunctional relationship between Carrie, an alcoholic, controlling stage mother and her adult daughter, Megan. Carrie does everything in her power to ensure that Megan will become a famous actress, often with disastrous, humiliating results. Starring Carolyn Hennesy, (General Hospital, True Blood, Cougar Town) Carmela Corbett (Undercover, Mad Men), Evan Handler (Sex and the City, Californication).

In our first episode, Mother’s Day, Megan endeavors to share a moment of intimacy and connection with her mother, Carrie. However Carrie has other plans… She intends to use the day as a networking opportunity for inviting producer Mike to her mother daughter lunch. The lunch is not a success for Megan, who ends up abandoned and alone in the restaurant. To make matters worse she stumbles upon something on her way home that she may never be able to forget…

Advice from the Filmmaker?
CA:
As a team we feel very fortunate to have had such a collaborative and supportive experience working together. Only advice would be to find collaborators and fellow creatives that you can work alongside passionately and productively. That encourages one another and are open to shared vision and input. Our lead actress and co-writer Carmela Corbett always says to just follow our own gut. If it brings you joy and laughter then chances are it will have an effect on others. Following your own sense of joy is enough.
