“I did a play when I was a kid and played the prince in “The Frog Prince Fairy Tale”, wow… this has to be over 35 years ago. But I was always on stage during my music career, so I always had the bug in me to be a performer and I always wanted to be Stallone & De Niro,” says Lorenzo Antonucci.
indieactivity: What acting technique do you use?
Lorenzo Antonucci (LA): I use method acting for the most part – I feel like it keeps you focused on the world you’re in and what your character is going through at any given moment.
How did you get connected to the project? Did you have to audition? If you did, would still have got the part?
Lorenzo Antonucci (LA): I’m an executive producer and a writer on Paradise City so we all creatively wrote my part. I didn’t have to audition for the part. I think that if I did have to audition for this role, I would’ve never booked it Haha!
Let’s take this project you did; how did you prepare for such a role: the cast, the physicality the terrain, the climate, weather, and the demands of the project?
Lorenzo Antonucci (LA): This character was based on my best friend Pauly and a sprinkle of myself in my music career. But I usually breakdown the character and the script multiple times and create scenes in my head leading up to the actual scene… like I make up the story “what would’ve happened leading up to the scene you’re doing”. I think it helps you find things out about your character that weren’t written in the backstory or aren’t told to you by the writer.
As one of the casts on the project, how did this ‘choice’ work for you?
Lorenzo Antonucci (LA): It works great – I feel wonderful being a part of such an amazing cast and so grateful for the team involved.
How do you create the character from a script into a person?
LA: This character is so close to who I am, it was one of my easiest to capture.
What part of the story challenged you when you read it? What drove you to get on the project?
LA: It’s a little different when you write yourself into the storyline. No challenge at all…
Explain one creative choice you took on the set of this production?
LA: He reminded me of when I quit my band and how devastated I was – to pull from there for this specific scene.
You’re not new to Indie film, what do you enjoy about the work that keeps you working?
LA: I love creating art and having the family bond on set when everyone is there for the same reason to make a beautiful film.
How did you collaborate with your cast members from scene to scene?
LA: We’d usually bounce ideas off of each other from scene to scene before rehearsals and would run lines together.
As the main cast of the film, describe the feeling of responsibility that you shouldered. Were you scared? Or did it fire you up? What scenes were difficult to shoot?
LA: It was so hard to focus on the responsibilities from the acting aspect when I was also a producer that had his hands full. So, it kind of just blended together.
What did you take away from the film production?
LA: Trust your team and your crew. Also do not try to shoot more than 8 pages a day, ha-ha at the max 7!
What do you like most about the director and his/her collaboration with his/her team?
LA: We all collaborated and had such a great vibe doing so. The director and I are like brothers, so we know each other better than most.
What is next for you?
LA: Black Helmet directed by Zach Merck – Jersey Bred directed by Greg Russo – Scarlett “pilot” directed by Massimiliano Trevis, currently filming now and a bunch of other projects that are in development or being packaged as we speak. Scheduled for release in winter in 2021 Reactor- directed by Jared Cohn and acting opposite Bruce Willis.
What advice do you give actors regarding what you learned on the project?
LA: Keep fighting the fight and work for free if you need to get your foot in the door and make the connections. Do whatever it takes to make it all happen!
