Indie Sales Boards Romain Duris Starrer ‘Ceasefire’
Indie sales has acquired international to Emmanuel Courcol’s “Ceasefire,” an epic WWI-set drama starring Romain Duris (“Heartbreaker”), Grégory Gadebois (“The Returned”) and Celine Salette (“The Connection”).
“Ceasefire” marks the directorial debut of Courcol, well-known screenwriter whose credits include Philippe Lioret’s “Our Desires” and “Welcome.”
Duris will star as Georges, a former soldier traumatized by the war and the death of his little brother, whom he couldn’t save. Seeking to find his own way to healing, Georges travels across France and Africa, where he bonds with Diofo, an African war comrade and his family and comes across an intriguing woman.
Courcol has brought together an topnotch key crew including vet cinematographer Tom Stern, whose worked on “American Sniper,” “Hunger Games” and “Gran Torino,” as well as costume designers Edith Vespirini, who worked on Rachid Bouchareb’s “Outside The Law,” among other movies.
“‘Ceasfire’ is an upscale, exciting project which boasts a sprawling storyline combines several of my favourite genres in an exciting way — it’s romanesque and epic,” said Nicolas Eschbach, co-founder of Indie Sales, who is showing a promo of the film in Cannes.
Pic is produced by Christophe Mazodier, who notably produced “The Smell of Us,” Julie Delpy’s “2 Days In New York” and “2 Days In Paris.”
Le Pacte will release “Ceasefire” in France in 2016.
Indie Sales, launched two years ago, has Louis Garrel’s “Two Friends” and Clément Cogitore’s “The Wakhan Front” at Critics Week and Alice Winocour’s “Disorder” playing at Un Certain Regard.
In the run-up to Cannes, Indie Sales also boarded “Another Day of Life,” a hybrid animation/live action feature based on Polish journalist Ryszard Kapuscinski’s eponymous book and depicts Kapuscinski’s experience during the 1975 civil war in Angola.
Now in production, “Another Day of Life” is directed by Spain’s Raul de La Fuente and Poland’s Damian Nenow.
Indie Sales reps the worldwide, except for Poland, Spain, Germany, Benelux and Hungary, and is showing an exclusive promo in Cannes. Pandora will release it in Germany and Next Film will distribute in Poland.
“Another Day of Life” is Indie Sales’s fourth acquisition of an animated feature film. The Paris-based company, which won this year’s “Distributor of the Year 2015” at Cartoon Movie Festival, previously sold Xavier Picard’s “Moomins of the Riviera,” Celine Sciamma-penned “My Life qs a Zucchini” and vidgame franchise-based “Dofus – Book I: Julith.
