Alexander Bedria’s Award-Winning Shorts The Zim is inspired by true events that occurred during the controversial Zimbabwean land seizures

Mayans MC’s actor Alexander Bedria’s directorial debut The Zim was selected by numerous international film festivals and won the top prize at LA Shorts International Film Festival, where 300 Shorts were in contention for the award. The acclaimed short was released 2nd June 2020.

The Zim is the story of one man’s struggle to protect his farm and loved ones from a violent land invasion. Inspired by true events that occurred during the controversial Zimbabwean land seizures in the early 2000’s, The Zim follows the story of farmer Daniel Silva (Alexander Bedria) who must decide between fleeing the country or standing his ground.

William Zimunya (native Zimbabwean Tongayi Chirisa), his farmhand is torn between loyalty to his lifelong friend and fear of the powerful men who lead the charge to invade the farm.

Bedria says it was our current crisis that motivated him to release the film for free, in the hopes that it would inspire others to continue pursuing their own passion projects: “I hope the film encourages filmmakers and storytellers to stay their course, even in the midst of such uncertainty.

As an actor, Bedria has recently recurred as Santiago Martin Heimler on FX’s Mayans MC and guest-starred as FBI Special Agent Randall Cejudo on CBS’ highly rated drama NCIS: Los Angeles. His previous credits include the Showtime series Ray Donovan and HBO’s The Newsroom, Scandal, Criminal Minds, 90210, CSI: Miami and The Amazing Spider-man. He will next be seen in the thriller Aftermath with Ashley Greene and Shawn Ashmore.

Among The Zim’s numerous accolades was an Artios nomination from the Casting Society of America, selection for the SAG-AFTRA short film showcase, and Best Short from the Studio City Film Festival  In the end, Bedria defers the lion’s share of praise to his cast and crew: “I can’t wait for people to see the incredible work that so many talented artists brought to this project.”

Alexander Bedria is an American actor and filmmaker. He was last seen as the brash FBI Agent Randall Cejudo on NCIS: LOS ANGELES (CBS) and recurring as the dedicated DEA Agent Santiago Heimler on MAYANS MC (FX). He will next be seen in the feature AFTERMATH (w/Ashley Greene and Shawn Ashmore).

Alexander’s considerable range was showcased when guest starring as the morally empty Marco on the Showtime series RAY DONOVAN and compassionate priest Phil on HBO’s THE NEWSROOM. Additional television/film credits include: SCANDAL, CRIMINAL MINDS, 90210, PAPA, CSI: MIAMI, WHEN DUTY CALLS, TASTE OF ROMANCE and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.

Alexander is also an award winning filmmaker, whose short THE ZIM won the prestigious LA Shorts Fest, earned an Artios Award nomination from the Casting Society of America, and qualified for an Academy Award nomination.
