Andrew Greaves in Hungry Joe (2020) by Paul Holbrook & Samuel Dawe

Hungry Joe, the latest short-film by multi-award-winning writing-directing British duo Paul Holbrook and Sam Dawe has completed post-production and is currently submitting to international film festivals for release towards the end of 2020!

As with their previous BaftaQualifying short films, ‘Hungry Joe’ splices character-driven social realism with a big splash of genre – in this case a slow-burn, itchy, body horror.

‘Hungry Joe’ stars Shunk Films regular Laura Bayston (Ellen, Killing Eve), Joe Sims (Broadchurch, Britannia) and introduces an exciting emerging talent in Andrew Greaves.

Synopsis: ‘Hungry Joe’ tells the contemporary short story (loosely based on the true story of Tarrare) of a single mother who struggles to bond with her apathetic child; born with an insatiable and increasingly inhumane appetite.

The unique and raw film will be aimed at both the top tier industry affiliated festival circuit as well as the those with genre flair throughout 2020 and will also serve as a proof-of-concept that will accompany the development of an exciting feature film project of the same name.

Hungry Joe by Paul Holbrook & Samuel Dawe

Shunk Films is the collective monicker of filmmaking duo Paul Holbrook & Sam Dawe. Both Writer-Directors, cousins Paul and Sam grew up on a working-class council estate in Bristol and have self-produced low-budget short films that have gone on to screen at prestigious festivals around the world, winning lots of awards along the way.

Aside from writing, developing and directing low budget projects that they can potentially bring to life themselves, they also actively develop exciting projects in the hope of collaborating with like-minded producers as well as writing larger projects ‘on spec‘ with the aim of one day writing and directing their first feature film.
