Colorado-actress Nicole Olson works both in front of the camera & behind it

Colorado-actress Nicole Olson works both in front of the camera – as an actress, starring in the likes of the new movie Dead Love – as well as behind it, in brand marketing.

indieactivity: When did your film career kick off and how?
Nicole Olson: The snowy winter of 2015. I responded to a Facebook post in a group for Colorado filmmakers, and one self-tape later, I found myself doing a chemistry read in Denver. I heard that I got the part that same night.

indieactivity: Did you study?
Nicole Olson: Film? No. Musical theatre? Hell yes.

indieactivity: In those early days what motivated your acting choices? And has it changed?
Nicole Olson: A love of singing. With the musical theatre background, and the jazz and opera before that, singing felt like the rawest way to express myself. But, when I stepped on set on that first day, it was like a whole other reflex kicked into place. All of my training fell away, and for two weeks I just became another person.

indieactivity: What was your first big role? Is there one that ‘changed everything’ for you?
Nicole Olson: This is that first big role. It’s hard to imagine going back to theater after knowing what filming feels like. It’s invigorating.

indieactivity: If you’re stopped on the street by someone that’s recognized you from a film, what would it likely be?
Nicole Olson: Well, since this is the one and only film I’ve been in, it would have to be Dead Love! If it’s another one I might have a doppelganger out there…

indieactivity: How different is this film to the others you’ve made? And what was the initial interest?
Nicole Olson: As I previously mentioned, Dead Love is my debut to the silver screen. This story is truly unique though, and I’m excited see what other stories I can help breathe life into someday.

indieactivity: How similar to your character are you?
Nicole Olson: Well, we’re both romantics and idealists, and in that sense we’re very alike. However, Fiona…is a bit more calculated than I am.

indieactivity: Do you think it helps to be a fan of the genre to be in a film within it?
Nicole Olson: I don’t think it necessarily helps, but I am a huge horror fan, and have been since I was young.

indieactivity: If you could work with anyone, who would it be?
Nicole Olson: Baz Luhrmann, 100%. Two of his films are in my top ten favorites, and his visual style beautiful.

If we’re talking horror, James Wan. I’ve got a real soft spot for retro style horror, and The Conjuring is one of my go-to’s during Halloween season.

indieactivity: What advice would you give to those looking to follow their dreams and become an actor?
Nicole Olson: Be honest and hardworking in everything you do.

indieactivity: Best thing about being an actor?
Nicole Olson: The thrilling feeling of stepping into the life of someone else. As an actor, you are granted the rare gift of living life’s most glorious and gritty moments. Every performance is a celebration of life, and the story out of choices.
